Many of us do not really understand our faith. We hope the process of "WHY CATHOLIC" will help all of us to grow in our faith and understand it better.

Why are you Catholic?

Why do you come to church?

Why? Why? Why?

   A Disciple's Prayer

Loving God and Father, help us to be people of prayer, committed to the person and message of Jesus your Son.

Help us to grasp the integrity and beauty of the truths of our faith and the transforming power of your grace.

Nourish and strengthen us as people of faith, disciples of Jesus, committed to the mission of the Church and eager to share the gospel without restraint.

Let our hearts burn within us as we catch glimpses of your heart in Jesus, for through him, we know your loving plan for us.

We ask this through Jesus the Christ who lives with you and the Holy Spirit in one loving Trinity.

Amen.

As a first step, we are asking everyone to pray for the success of "WHY CATHOLIC" in our parishes. A Disciple's Prayer is located on this sit. Please pray it each day during Lent.

Check the schedule below for dates, times and places!

Father Jim O'Hara and The Planning Team

"WHY CATHOLIC” DISCUSSIONS continue on Tuesday evening, February 19th at St. Casimir’s Social Hall. This Lenten season we are discussing prayer and the various types and approaches to prayer.  This week we will study “Prayer in the Old Testament”. Abraham’s heart was attuned to God. He not only believed in God but he walked in God’s presence.  How do I consciously walk in God’s presence? Join us on the Tuesdays of Lent for this adult discussion program! Make this part of your Lenten Journey!

In Lent of 2006, the Diocese of Erie embarked on a spiritual journey called Why Catholic? focusing on the four books of the Catholic Catechism of the Catholic Church. One book is studied per year over a four year process. About 50 parishes from around the diocese are participating in this effort.

Why Catholic? is experienced in a number of ways:

  • Small group communities gather for six weeks in Lent and six weeks in the Fall to reflect on a book of the catechism. In 2007, the focus was on Liturgy and Sacraments. The material presents information from the catechism and Scripture and the participants attempt to apply it to their own lives.
  • In between sessions, Faith Formation Workshops are held throughout the diocese. These give deeper insight into the topic for the year.
  • In December, there are area retreats offered for all parishioners of all parishes engaged in Why Catholic? These again focus on the topic for the year.
  • In January, facilitator workshops are held for all those leading the small groups. These help the leaders become familiar with the topic for the year and offer some concrete help in facilitating faith-sharing groups. Cost can be negotiated.
